Athletes who are percieved as mentally tough possess an unshakeable self-belief in their ability to achieve goals, have a self-belief that they have remarkable qualities and abilities that are better than their opponent, and have an insatiable desire and interalized motives to follow (Connaughton, Wadey, Hanton, & Jones, 2008).
